The Bohol International Marathon is also known as the Sandugo Run, as it is one of the events in the two-month-long Sandugo Festival. The festival commemorates the historic Blood Compact in the 16th century between Spanish conquistador Miguel López de Legazpi and Boholano Chieftain Datu Sikatuna in Tagbilaran City, symbolizing peace and friendship.
